Parkland Evangelical Lutheran Church enjoys a rich heritage by God's grace through many generations of faithful Lutherans. The founder of our congregation, Pastor Bjug Harstad, was called
by the Norwegian Synod in 1890 to begin a Lutheran academy in the Pacific Northwest. Parkland, a community located south of Tacoma, was chosen for the site of the academy. As many Norwegian
Lutherans migrated from the Midwest to this location a congregation was formed. We cordially invite you to become a part of our congregation and to worship and grow with us. In an age of moral chaos and confusing religious
fads, God's Word still offers us his timeless and unchanging truth. Come experience this at Parkland Evangelical Lutheran Church!

Parkland Lutheran School provides an educational program beginning with pre-kindergarten and continuing through the eighth grade. Children must be four years old for pre-kindergarten and five years old for kindergarten. Applicants
in other grades are admitted on the basis of previous school records. We offer a sound basic education from a Christian perspective, daily religion classes, regular devotions, a weekly children's chapel service, and all
traditional subjects are prescribed by the State Board of Education. (Upon graduation from the eighth grade, students from Parkland Lutheran School can transfer to other schools, public or private, without any difficulty.)

Parkland Lutheran Kindergarten begins at 8:30. The morning session concludes at 12:00 and the afternoon Kindergarten Enrichment concludes at 3:15 along with the other PLS students. A before and after school care
program, called Extended Care, is open before school from 7:00 - 8:20 a.m. and after school from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. for an additional fee. A child must be five years of age on or before August 31st and take a readiness test to
be eligible for admission to Kindergarten. There is an enrollment trial period of six weeks which is applicable to all students. A Kindergarten Open House is usually held in April or May, for prospective students and their
parents, to visit our classroom.

Parkland Lutheran Pre-K is for mature 4 year olds and 5 year-olds not quite ready for kindergarten. We recommend boys to be 4 by April. The class meets for a half day, five days a week. Our Christian Education
Program provides challenging experiences meeting the spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional, and physical needs of the students. The overall goal of our Pre-Kindergarten Program is to lead the children to Christ,
show them their sin but also reassure them of their Savior. It helps them to live with their playmates in a God-pleasing manner, to grow in social living, to adjust to life situations outside the home as well as the
school, and to feel a secure and happy relationship with family and classmates.
